Senior Property Tax Exemption applications due July 15
GARFIELD COUNTY, CO – Colorado seniors may be eligible for a property tax exemption, and the application deadline of Monday, July 15, is fast approaching. In 2000, Colorado voters passed a Property Tax Exemption for Seniors (also known as Referendum A). This law provides that 50 percent of the first $200,000 of actual value for a qualifying senior citizen’s primary residence shall be exempt from property taxation. Garfield County property tax collections up in 2018
GARFIELD COUNTY, CO – Approximately 30,000 notices are in the mail to Garfield County property owners January 29. The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners certified $127 million in taxes to be collected through this tax cycle. This is up from $120 million certified for collection in 2017. Property taxes can be paid in halves, or all at one time. The deadlines for half payments are Feb. 28, 2018, and June 15, 2018. The deadline for a full payment is April 30, 2018. Property tax bills were mailed January 30 to Garfield County residents
Property tax season is already here, just ahead of income tax season. January 30 about 30,000 property tax bills were mailed to Garfield County property owners. Garfield County has $164,362,239.64 in taxes certified to be collected through this tax cycle, according to Garfield County Treasurer Georgia Chamberlain. That is up $11,401,244 from last year’s total. The difference is due to an increase in percentage of the county’s total valuation of oil and gas activities of 12.6 percent.
