Over the past two years, COVID-19 propelled the public health field into the spotlight. But the public health system does far more than just pandemic response. Control of contagious diseases, safe food and water, maternal and child health services are only a few of the public health achievements that have prevented countless deaths and improved the quality of American life. County facilities closed to public through April 26
In conjunction with the state of Colorado’s stay at home order, all Garfield County offices and buildings are closed to the public through April 26. Essential county services are still being provided while these facilities are closed. A standing Garfield County Public Health order signed March 20, noted that the county is following with all orders issued by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE) and Governor Jared Polis’ office regarding COVID-19 safety measures. Norovirus-like illness
A significant number of people experiencing norovirus-like illness in Mesa County prompted the recent closing of Mesa County Valley School District 51 schools. Garfield County Public Health has received calls from childcare centers and workplaces reporting individuals with similar symptoms. Public Health is monitoring the outbreak; and encourages everyone to help prevent the spread of illness. People who are ill should stay home and parents should keep sick children home for 24-48 hours or until all symptoms resolve.
