The Western Slope Veterans Coalition (WSVC) has invited the community to celebrate the expansion and reopening of the Jesse Beckius/Casey Owens Veterans Resource Center in Glenwood Springs on Sunday, June 13, from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. A celebratory ribbon cutting and presentation of military colors takes place at 1 p.m.
Garfield County has appointed David Pruett as new veterans’ services officer for a two-year term that began on July 13, 2020. A request for qualifications yielded five interested individuals, of which Pruett was determined to be the best fit for the role. An honorably discharged Navy veteran (Navy Special Warfare), Pruett was active duty for almost five years before injuries ended his military career prematurely. The contract role entails assisting Garfield County veterans, their families and legal representatives in a wide variety of duties, including benefit claims. This is a contract position, and applicants will submit qualifications to Garfield County Procurement. The role requires the individual to have served in a branch of the U.S. armed forces and be honorably discharged or an officer on inactive duty, be a resident of Colorado, and a U.S. citizen. GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. – Garfield County has named Lisa Reed-Scott its new veterans service officer, which helps local veterans connect with needed services and benefits. The U.S. Marine Corps veteran has signed on to serve in the role through 2020. GARFIELD COUNTY, CO – Three local nonprofits that serve Garfield County residents will now operate from a county-owned building next to the Garfield County Administration Building in Glenwood Springs. The Western Slope Veterans Coalition, Garfield County Veterans Services, and CASA of the Ninth will occupy more than 600 square feet of office space at 803 Colorado Ave., for a combined rent of $2. GARFIELD COUNTY, CO – Garfield County has named Greg Bak, a U.S. Navy veteran, as its new Veterans Service Officer (VSO), and he will take the helm on Jan. 1. He’s replacing longtime VSO Joe Carpenter, who is retiring after roughly 17 years at the post. Bak, who is an emergency medical technician and firefighter at Colorado River Fire Rescue, said he wanted to do more for his fellow veterans.
