Bouncingbet
(Saponaria officinalis)
A perennial with stout, erect branching stems with light pink to white flowers condensed at the end. This plant is an escaped ornamental which was originally imported from Europe and quickly spread into open spaces in Colorado. It spreads not only by seed but also by rhizomatous roots.
This very competitive plant spreads quickly; it is toxic but is not usually grazed. It is usually found in or near populated areas and can grow in full sun to partial shade. It prefers moist, well-drained soil but can also be found in wet areas. Bouncingbet has been found in No Name, Glenwood Springs and New Castle.
