The USDA Forest Service and the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) are hosting an informational public meeting Dec. 14 in Carbondale regarding the proposal to withdraw approximately 224,704 acres of National Forest System and Bureau of Land Management lands in Garfield, Gunnison and Pitkin counties from disposition under the public land laws and mineral and geothermal leasing laws. The meeting will include two sessions of up to one-hour, beginning at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m., at the Carbondale & Rural Fire Protection District, 300 Meadowood Drive in Carbondale or virtually. BLM implements seasonal closures to protect wintering wildlife

The Bureau of Land Management Grand Junction and Colorado River Valley field offices will begin seasonal closures on Dec. 1, 2022. Seasonal closures protect wintering wildlife and reduce damage to roads. Most areas will continue to be open to non-motorized and non-mechanized recreation opportunities such as hiking, snowshoeing, and horseback riding. “Winter closures are critical for wintering wildlife that are trying to conserve as much energy as possible,” said Upper Colorado River District Manager Greg Larson. “We appreciate the public’s cooperation in minimizing disturbance to wildlife during the winter.” The Grand Junction Field Office seasonal closures occur from Dec. 1

The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) Upper Colorado River District is pleased to announce that the Notice of Intent (NOI) to prepare a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement for the Colorado River Valley Field Office and Grand Junction Field Office Resource Management Plans, Colorado has been published in the Federal Register.
