GARFIELD COUNTY, CO – Shutterbugs now have the opportunity to photograph noxious weeds for next year’s “Weeds of Garfield County” calendar, and compete for a cash prize. Garfield County’s Vegetation Management Department is seeking images related to noxious weeds to use in its annual calendar.

The winning photo will earn a $300 grand prize, as well as be featured in the 2020 calendar. Photos of Garfield County noxious weeds, weed removal and mitigation efforts, biocontrol, native habitats and agricultural settings, and images incorporating wildlife will all be considered. The contest is open to anyone wishing to make a submission, but only one photograph will be selected for the grand prize.

“We’d love to see Garfield County through the eyes of its citizens,” said Garfield County Vegetation Program Coordinator Sarah LaRose. “Many noxious weeds are beautiful to photograph, but after that, feel free to pull them!”

Submissions must be at least 10-by-13 inches, and at a resolution of 300 dpi (smart phones do not meet these requirements). Photographers must include their names – but may opt to remain anonymous in the calendar – and a detailed description of where the photograph was taken, and how it relates to noxious weeds. Submissions must be sent to Sarah LaRose at slarose@garfield-county.com by July 15, 2019.
