At approximately 7:20 p.m. on Tuesday November 2, 2021, Garfield County Sheriff’s Office deputies were notified of a burglary in progress that had been interrupted. While traveling down Four Mile Road, the vehicle left the road at a high rate of speed and crashed into a ravine. The responding deputies initiated a reverse 911 call to direct area residents to stay inside with doors and vehicles locked until the suspect or suspects could be located. This call was cancelled once the suspect was located at the crash scene and it was determined there were no other suspects involved who may have fled the scene.

The crash resulted in the fatality of the suspect. Colorado State Patrol’s accident reconstruction people arrived on scene to assist with the investigation. It was later determined that the investigation of the site would continue on Wednesday morning due to the location of the vehicle, the associated terrain and the time of night.

Deputies responded to the incident however, there was never an active pursuit of the vehicle by any law enforcement entity. The identity of the suspect was unknown at the time. Information, as to the identity of the suspect, will be released by the Garfield County Coroner’s Office once it is established and next of kin has been notified.

This is an active investigation of both the scene of the accident and the original burglary site. No further information will be released.
