Senior grab n’ go lunches suspended in Glenwood, Carbondale

PRESS RELEASE
January 13, 2022

A program that provides take-home meals for Garfield County seniors in Glenwood Springs and Carbondale is suspending on January 20 while the county solicits caterers to continue the service. The popular Grab n’ Go lunches program have been well-utilized during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The county is seeking caterers to provide the meals to keep the program in operation and has contacted seniors who are affected by the service suspension. Seniors in eastern Garfield County can still attend congregate meal sites from Parachute to New Castle.

“During the pandemic, we have been providing heat-at-home meals in Glenwood Springs and Carbondale. It is our hope to reopen to congregate hot meals with our original pre-pandemic schedule in Glenwood Springs on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays and in Carbondale on Wednesdays,” noted Garfield County Senior Services Program Manager Judy Martin in a letter announcing the program’s suspension. “We appreciate your patience and flexibility while we identify a new caterer. We will keep you informed of our progress and give you updates every 30 days.”

In-person meals are still available for area seniors, and reservations (970-665-0040) should be made 48 hours in advance. All meals are served at noon at the following locations:

• New Castle “The Gathering” at the Castle Valley Senior Housing, 201 Castle Valley Blvd. in New Castle on Mondays
• Silt “Meet ‘n Eat” at Silt Town Center, 600 Home Avenue, Silt on Wednesdays.
• Parachute at the Valley Senior Center, 540 N. Parachute Ave., on Mondays and Wednesday
• Rifle “Senior Delight” at the Rifle Senior Center, 50 Ute Avenue, Rifle on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

“We are looking for a great community partner to help us serve hot lunches to seniors following our funding guidelines,” Martin added.
