Sam Carver has been named the new director at the Rifle Garfield County Airport, bringing nearly three decades of experience in the aviation industry to the burgeoning airfield. Carver, IAP, C.M., who was most recently airport director for the City of Fernandina Beach, Florida, takes over the role on October 7, 2024.

Garfield County conducted a robust hiring process that yielded five highly qualified candidates, out of which Carver rose to the top.

“Sam is joining the county at an exciting time when there is tremendous activity occurring at the Rifle Garfield County Airport, including launching the next Airport Master Plan, as well as our involvement in significant development projects, such as a possible second fixed-base operator (FBO),” said Garfield County Manager Fred Jarman. “Sam’s background and wealth of experience add great value to the next chapter in the growth of the county’s airport and we’re looking forward to him joining our team.”

Carver earned a bachelor’s degree in Commercial Aviation from Delta State University (Mississippi) and has since received the prestigious International Airport Professional (IAP) designation. He is also a certified member of the American Association of Airport Executives; an executive member of the Florida Airports Council; vice chair of the Continuing Florida Aviation Systems Planning Process; and a member of the National Business Aviation Association.

Carver has held leadership positions at Martin County Airport/Witham Field; Jackson Municipal Airport; Clemson-Oconee County Airport; Slidell Municipal Airport; Tallahassee Regional Airport; Ft. Lauderdale International Airport; and the Gulfport-Biloxi International Airport.

“I am deeply honored to accept the position of airport director at Rifle Garfield County Airport. This opportunity is a privilege, and I look forward to collaborating with the dedicated team and community partners to ensure the airport continues to be a safe, efficient, and welcoming gateway for travelers and businesses,” he said. “Together, we will build on the strong foundation in place and enhance the airport’s role in fostering economic development and connectivity for the region. I am excited about the airport’s future and confident in the great strides we will make!”

Carver replaces longtime Rifle Garfield County Airport Director Brian Condie, who was recently named airport director at Ogden-Hinckley Airport (OGD) in Utah. Until Carver’s arrival, Airport Operations Coordinator Fil Meraz is serving as acting director, supported by the county manager.
