A slash pile is seen burning.

Pile burning planned November 19-20 on Sunlight Mountain

WRNF PRESS RELEASE
November 18, 2024

Fire crews plan to burn slash piles tomorrow and Wednesday at the Sunlight Peak Communication Site northwest of Sunlight Ski Resort in Garfield County, and in Keystone Gulch in Summit County.

The piles are the result of work to reduce fuels for wildfires. Logs, slash and brush produced by thinning were placed into numerous piles across the project areas. The piles are allowed to dry until they can be burned when there is snow on the ground and conditions are good for smoke dispersal.

Smoke will be visible in these areas. Most of the smoke will dissipate during the day; however, some smoke could remain in valley bottoms and drainages at night for short durations.

Fire managers have developed a detailed prescribed fire plan and obtained smoke permits from the State of Colorado. Prescribed fire smoke may affect your health.
