PRESS RELEASE
January 23, 2024
Garfield County Public Health and the Garfield County Public Library District are excited to launch the Let’s Chat Mental Health series, featuring monthly opportunities to explore and discuss important mental health topics. The series fosters deeper understanding while bringing resources to the community.
Understanding Grief, January 28, 5 p.m.
Grief is a complex and deeply personal experience of loss. It does not follow a specific timeline or pattern. While it’s often associated with the death of a loved one, grief can also arise from many other life events, such as the loss of a job, home, fertility, marriage, a dream, or even one’s health.
During this session, chaplains from Valley View Hospital and grief counselors from local organizations will delve into what grief truly is, how to recognize it in ourselves and others, find ways to support those experiencing it, and when to consider professional help.
A Brief Introduction to Suicide Prevention, January 29, 6 p.m.
Join Valley View Behavioral Health Director Barbra Corcoran, LCSW, LAC, PMH-C, and Mason Hohstadt with the Suicide Prevention Coalition of Garfield County to learn about the most up-to-date research on preventing deaths by suicide. Understand the common risk factors for suicide, how to spot the warning signs, and discover ways to keep ourselves and others safe.
