COVID-19 weekly summary

5.4.21

53% of Garfield vaccinated, pop-up clinics scheduled throughout county, variant update

Vaccines (Johnson & Johnson, Pfizer, Moderna) Clinics

Fifty-three percent of Garfield County individuals have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine. The state set a goal that every county in Colorado has 75% of the eligible population immunized by the Fourth of July.

Though the vaccine is widely available, there are still people who have not yet had the opportunity to become vaccinated.

The health department is conducting pop up clinics in locations throughout Garfield County. Traveling to different neighborhoods, the department is working to better understand barriers to vaccine access. Last week’s pop-up clinics in New Castle and Rifle vaccinated over 130 people. Those in attendance cited lack of transportation, lack of time due to work and family obligations, and lack of knowing where to go or how to access the vaccine as reasons for not getting vaccinated earlier.

Second doses can be received at any Garfield County Public Health clinic, no matter where the first dose was received, provided the clinic has that particular vaccine on that day. The type of vaccine offered at each clinic varies. Pfizer second doses are allowed 21 days later and Moderna second doses are allowed 28 days later.

All Coloradans 16 and up are eligible to receive the Pfizer vaccine and those 18 and up are eligible for the Moderna or Johnson & Johnson vaccine.

Walk-ups are welcome at all scheduled clinics, but appointments can still be made online.
