Garfield County is accepting letters of interest for county treasurer through 5 p.m. on Friday, March 13. Interested parties must be an eligible elector and a resident of Garfield County for at least 12 months.

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) has scheduled a work session at 9 a.m. on Monday, March 23, during which public interviews will take place. The commissioners plan to make an appointment for new Garfield County treasurer at the BOCC regular meeting on Monday, April 6. Finalists for the appointment are being determined at the Monday, March 16 BOCC meeting.

The term runs through 2022, and interested applicants should send a letter of interest, along with a resume, to John Martin, Board of County Commissioners Chair, 108 8th Street, Suite 101, Glenwood Springs, CO 81601.

Treasurer Karla Bagley is leaving her role on March 13 to spend more time with family out of state. She noted that interested candidates should possess a strong desire for public service and knowledge of government operations; ten years or more management experience and strong communication skills; and added that backgrounds in business/public administration and accounting/finance are helpful.

“It’s not just a job, it is a political appointment,” added Commissioner Martin. “You’ll be holding an elected office after being appointed by this board.”
