County awards $30,000 in discretionary grants
Requests are capped at $5,000, and $120,000 was allocated for nonprofits in 2024

Garfield County has awarded $30,000 in fourth-quarter discretionary grants to local nonprofits benefitting area residents. The county received requests for $37,000 from eight qualifying nonprofits during this cycle.
- Nonprofits receiving grant funds include:
The Mount Sopris Nordic Council, which was awarded $5,000 toward the operation of the Spring Gulch cross country trail system near Carbondale. - The Western Slope Veterans Coalition received $5,000 toward its operations connecting vital services to veterans from throughout the community.
- Liberty Classical Academy was granted $5,000 for equipment upgrades at its New Castle school.
- The Rifle Middle School’s Flowstate Mountain Biking Club received $2,500 toward new, safer bikes for its growing group of enthusiastic riders.
- Colorado Mountain College Foundation was awarded $2,500 toward the cost of a Colorado High School Cycling League mountain bike race held at the Spring Valley campus that drew nearly 2,180 attendees.
- Carbondale Community Access Radio (KDNK) was granted $5,000 for broadcasting and operations costs.
- Symphony of the Valley received $5,000 for operations in bringing live musical performances and auxiliary youth programs to the region.
Garfield County had allocated $120,000 for discretionary grants in 2024, and each request is capped at $5,000. The fourth-quarter awards leave $3,550 in the discretionary grant fund for the remainder of the year.
