2013 Coordinated Election offers mail ballot and in person voting options
PRESS RELEASE
October 29, 2013
GARFIELD COUNTY, CO – The 2013 Coordinated Election on November 5, 2013 is a mail ballot election with a new twist. All active voters were sent a mail ballot on October 15, but there are also in person voting options available to all voters this week and on Election Day.
To date, about 5000 voters have voted and returned their ballots. Over 2000 ballots have been returned to the County Clerk’s office because the United States Post Office was unable to deliver the ballot to the address on file for those voters. Ballots by law cannot be forwarded and must be returned to the County Clerk.
Voters are encouraged to use one of the many drop-off sites after Thursday, October 31, and not to rely on their ballots being delivered by mail to the Garfield County Clerk’s office by Election Day. Postmarks do not count for elections, and ballots must be received at a drop off location by 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
Ballots may be dropped off at the Carbondale Town Hall, New Castle Town Hall, Silt Town Hall, and Parachute Town Hall, during normal working hours, through Monday, November 4. All of these sites will also be open Saturday, November 2, 2013 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.
Voter Service Centers at the Garfield County Clerk’s office in Glenwood Springs, the Garfield County Clerk’s Annex in Rifle, and the Early Voting Service Center at the Department of Health and Human Services office at 195 West 14th St. in Rifle are open normal business hours, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. through Nov. 4, Saturday Nov. 2 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Election Day from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Voters may drop off ballots, change their addresses and receive ballots, register to vote and receive ballots, vote on accessible electronic voting machines, or get a replacement ballot at these service centers.
On Election Day, additional Voter Service Centers offering full voter services will be available at the Town Hall in Carbondale, the Glenwood Springs Community Center, the New Castle Library, the Silt Library and the Parachute Library. Voters may obtain ballots and drop-off ballots at all these sites from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Election Day.
The gray Garfield County drop box located on Eighth Street on the south side of the Garfield County Courthouse is available again for ballot drop-off 24 hours a day, seven days a week, until 7:00 p.m. on Election Day November 5, 2013.
