Garfield County third-quarter discretionary grant awards

More than $38,000 still available for fourth-quarter grant requests

GARFIELD COUNTY, CO – Garfield County has announced the recipients of a combined $22,500 in third-quarter discretionary grants. Quarterly discretionary grants for local nonprofits or governmental organizations are capped at $5,000, with $120,000 allocated for 2019.

Third-quarter awardees receiving $5,000 apiece include the Western Slope Veterans Coalition for operating expenses; Mount Sopris Historical Society for media displays to improve the customer’s experience at its Thompson House museum in Carbondale; and Colorado Mission of Mercy to purchase dental supplies for its mobile clinic that supplies cleanings, fillings, root canals and more.

Receiving $2,500 each are the National Trials Sheepdog Trials for public infrastructure during this year’s event; Roaring Fork Music Society for educational opportunities in its youth orchestra program; and the Aspen Community Foundation ($2,500) toward this fall’s GlenX Career Expo for local high school students at the Garfield County Fairgrounds.

These allocations leave $38,500 remaining for fourth quarter discretionary grant requests. The Board of County Commissioners approved the grant awards unanimously, 3-0.
