Board honors Merritt’s commitment to water issues
The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) honored Colorado River District President Dave Merritt for his decades of work to keep water on the Western Slope. Merritt, who has served as the Garfield County representative on the river district’s board of directors since 2009, is leaving the post after his term expires in January.

The Garfield County Commissioners are supporting a ballot initiative going to voters by the Colorado River Water Conservation District that, if approved on November 3, would increase the mill levy up to 0.5 mills.
Silt interchange matching grant approved
Garfield County has approved the reauthorization of a matching grant for $175,000 toward a new Interstate 70 interchange at Silt to help cover design and engineering costs. The town of Silt noted in its request that the upgrades, including a new pedestrian bridge and two new roundabouts, are critical to Silt’s economic future and pedestrian safety.

County approves additional $500,000 to address limestone extraction matters
The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners has approved a supplemental budget request of $500,000 to cover expenses for legal matters related to the limestone quarry operated in Garfield County by Rocky Mountain Aggregates, Inc. and RMR Industrials, Inc. (collectively, “RMI”).

Education center coming to Rifle
Construction and renovation on the new 12,000-square-foot Garfield County Education Center begins this spring on Railroad Avenue in Rifle. The work is designed to create a two-story shop and expo space with room for the community to study woodworking, metalsmithing, cooking, gardening, quilting, sewing, robotics and much more.
