The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) honored Colorado River District President Dave Merritt for his decades of work to keep water on the Western Slope. Merritt, who has served as the Garfield County representative on the river district’s board of directors since 2009, is leaving the post after his term expires in January.
Garfield County has awarded $16,000 to local nonprofits from the Board of County Commissioners’ Discretionary Grant Fund for the fourth quarter of 2020 Among the grant recipients are Mods4Quads, Inc. ($1,000) to help launch a new website focused on assisting the neurologically challenged population to reduce isolation and improve health in Garfield County; New Castle Lions Club ($2,000) for new drop boxes for its Lions Optical Assistance Program (LOAP), which collects eyeglasses that are donated by the community and redistributes them to people with the same prescription who need glasses; Yampah Mountain High School ($3,000) for its outdoor education program,
GARFIELD COUNTY, CO – Garfield County has approved a $50,000 grant to the local Salvation Army to help with client assistance and operational costs in light of increased need due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The nonprofit assists clients in covering the costs of housing and basic utilities, such as water, heat and electricity. The grant includes $25,000 for emergency COVID assistance from federal CARES Act funds the county has received, and the other $25,000 toward operations is coming out of the Board of County Commissioners’ (BOCC) discretionary grant fund.
