Volunteers are sought to fill seats on the Garfield County Weed Advisory Board. The board meets quarterly, and terms are for three years. Letters of interest are due by Friday, July 7.

Public Health investigation indicates foodborne cause of illness
June 21 - Lab samples sent to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment came back positive for Clostridium perfingens – a leading cause of foodborne illness. The illness is contracted from consuming large amounts of the bacteria, creating a toxin in the intestinal tract causing abdominal cramps and diarrhea. For most people, the illness resolves in about 24 hours.    press release

Westbank Ridge work

Garfield County is now offering the free Weigh and Win program to both employees and the general public. Participants can earn cash for losing weight. The weigh-in kiosk is at the Public Heath WIC office in Glenwood.

The popular bike path through Glenwood Canyon is closed temporarily between Shoshone and Hanging Lake, due to high water levels in the Colorado River. The other sections of the bike path remain open.

BLM comments on Balzac Gulch
BLM comment period
The BLM seeks public comment on the Balzac Gulch Master Development Plan west of Rifle. Terra Rocky Mountain LLC proposes to drill up to 66 new oil and gas wells directionally from three existing pads.
