The Board of County Commissioners approved a balanced 2018 operations budget on Nov. 13. The $104.8 million budget includes $83 million for operations, and $14.1 million in capital projects. The county's 2018 year-end fund balances are projected at $102.7 million.

The Garfield County Finance Department has again been honored for its excellence in governmental budgeting for its 2017 adopted budget. The GFOA bestowed the Distinguished Budget Presentation to the department for the eighth straight year.

2018 proposed budget
The Board of County Commissioners was presented with a balanced proposed 2018 operations budget on Oct. 2. The $105.7 million budget is up $344,000 from the 2017 adopted budget, and reflects a drop in revenues due to a decline in oil and gas production in the area.

Independent audit earns praise
An independent audit of Garfield County's Comprehensive Annual Financial Report (CAFR) found the accounting for 2016 to be conducted with the highest standards. The Finance Department is routinely recognized for its financial reporting achievement.

Economic recovery
Garfield County Commissioners received new data from the State of Colorado Demography Office December 16. Garfield County is experiencing a slow economic recovery, and attracting people to work in education, health services, management and agriculture.
