Garfield County history
Garfield County has a rich and varied history. Andrew Gulliford, professor of Southwest Studies and History at Fort Lewis College in Durango, captured the spirit of this history in his book “Garfield County, Colorado: The First Hundred Years 1883-1983.”
The document was sponsored by the Grand River Museum Alliance and its historical society members in Redstone, Carbondale, Glenwood Springs, New Castle, Silt, Rifle, Parachute, Marble, and the Garfield County Public Library. Publishing support was given by then Garfield County Commissioners Flavin Cerise, Jim Drinkhouse, and Larry Velasquez.
