Magnesium chloride applications


Each year, Garfield County Road and Bridge maintains numerous gravel roads countywide. To keep these roads in good, maintainable, and drivable condition, the application of magnesium chloride is part of road maintenance, binding road base to the road
.

Mag Chloride application

Magnesium chloride, more commonly referred to as "mag", is applied to gravel roads during spring and summer months to keep dust levels down, at times due to the high volume of traffic on the roads. The use of mag, beginning in late March and early April and continuing into early fall, is also used to maintain the stability of our county roads.
