PRESS RELEASE
January 27, 2016

Garfield County property tax notices are in the mail

GARFIELD COUNTY, CO - Property owners in Garfield County are receiving property tax notices in the mail. On January 22, about 30,000 notices were mailed to Garfield County property owners.

The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners certified $162 million in taxes to be collected through this tax cycle. This is up from $144 million certified to collect in 2015.

Information about property tax payments:

   • Property taxes are payable in halves or as a whole payment. The deadlines for half payments are February 29, 2016 and June 15, 2016. For one-time payments, the deadline is April 30, 2016.

   • Many property tax payments are made by mortgage companies. Call mortgage companies before property tax due dates to verify the payment has been made.

   • Property taxes are due each year whether taxpayers personally receive a tax notice or not. If a tax notice does not arrive in the next two weeks, please contact the treasurer's office.

Property owners may wish to make property tax payments online through a secure online payment portal integrated with the treasurer database of properties within the county. Visit www.garfield-county.com/treasurer in order to make an online payment. Search for a property by owner name, location or account number and click on the payment amount to open online payment portal.

In addition, property owners may pay in person at the treasurer’s office: 109 8th Street, Suite 204, Glenwood Springs (Garfield County Courthouse) or via the payment drop box located in the lobby of the courthouse of the same building. Residents can use the drop box, which does not require going through courthouse security. To pay by mail, please send to: P.O. Box 1069, Glenwood Springs, CO 81602. Note: property tax payments can no longer be made in the Rifle Annex office.

There will be two additional items included in the envelope with the 2016 tax notices this year. First, residents will see information from Garfield County Assessor Jim Yellico regarding the valuation process, including information on both the senior and disabled veterans property tax exemptions. The second piece of additional information will be a notice from Garfield County Clerk and Recorder Jean Alberico highlighting important dates in the 2016 election cycle.

For questions about property tax payments, or the tax payment process, please call the treasurer's office at 970-945-6382; or for valuation and assessment questions, call the assessor's office at 970-945-9134.
