PRESS RELEASE
January 27, 2015

Garfield County property tax notices are in the mail

GARFIELD COUNTY, CO - On January 27 and 28, about 30,000 property tax notices are en route to area mailboxes. Garfield County Treasurer Karla Bagley says property owners should receive their annual tax notices over the next week.

The Garfield County Board of County Commissioners certified $144,369,796 in taxes to be collected through this tax cycle. This is up nearly 9 percent, mostly due to oil and gas operations in the county.

Taxpayers should know that:

  • Property taxes are payable in halves or as a whole payment. The deadlines for half payments are February 28, 2015 and June 15, 2015. For one-time payments, the deadline is April 30, 2015.
  • Many property tax payments are made by mortgage companies. Call mortgage companies before property tax due dates to verify the payment has been made.
  • Property taxes are due each year whether taxpayers personally receive a tax notice or not. If a tax notice does not arrive in the next two weeks, please contact the treasurer's office.

Property owners may wish to make property tax payments online through a secure online payment portal integrated with the treasurer database of properties within the county. Visit garfield-county.com/treasurer in order to make an online payment. Search for a property by owner name, location or account number and click on the payment amount to open online payment portal.

In addition, property owners may pay in person at either treasurer office: Glenwood Springs: 109 8th Street, Suite 204 (Garfield County Courthouse) Rifle: 144 East 3rd Street (Please note: beginning March 9, 2015, office hours in Rifle will be on Mondays and Thursdays only, 8 am - 5 pm.)

To pay by mail, please send to: P.O. Box 1069, Glenwood Springs, CO 81602.

The 2015 tax notices reflect the county assessed values for 2014, an "intervening year" according to Garfield County Assessor Jim Yellico. Intervening designates that property values are essentially unchanged from 2013 for residential, commercial, and vacant land. All property will be revalued again in 2015.

For questions about property tax payments, or the tax payment process, please call the treasurer's office at 970-945-6382; or for valuation and assessment questions, call the assessor's office at 970-945-9134.
