Preference will be given to projects that have a strong measurable impact to increase access and/or consumption of fruits and vegetables, and likewise increase physical activity among residents, target schools or low-income populations, have a sustainability plan, have at least 50% matching funds, and/or are led by an active LiveWell Garfield County Steering or coalition member.

LiveWell Garfield County will distribute awards of $500 to $5,000 as part of $40,000 in mini grant funding to qualified applicants for 2014. Applications are due May 6 and August 5. Notification will be given one week after the application due date. For more information, please see the full LiveWell Garfield County Strategic Plan.

Garfield County Public Health is entering its second year as part of the LiveWell Program in Colorado. The program has a new coordinator in Garfield County, Dana Wood. A steering committee and coalition including county residents, schools, health providers, business owners and community organizers was created in 2012, and guides the strategic plan for the program. The strategic plan will direct the coalition through 2016.

LiveWell Garfield County conducted a community assessment to identify barriers to healthy eating and active living. In March 2013, twelve county residents and students explored their communities and took photographs related to healthy eating and active living. The images they captured reflect key issues that affect the wellbeing of all Garfield County residents. The input defined key HEAL strategies for the next three years of LiveWell Garfield County.

Contact Dana Wood at 970-625-5200, ext. 8121, for more information on the grants, goals for the organization and programs.
