Scotty McCreery to play Garfield County Fair and Rodeo

Country music star won 10th season of 'American Idol'

GARFIELD COUNTY, CO - Country music star and "American Idol" winner Scotty McCreery will headline the 79th annual Garfield County Fair and Rodeo this summer. The concert is Friday, August 4, and tickets go on sale June 1 at 12:01 a.m. at garfieldcountyfair.com. The concert is sponsored by Alpine Bank, Parr Sound and Lighting, Jay's Steak House, and KMTS.

The Garfield County Fair and Rodeo takes place July 31 through August 6, at the fairgrounds in Rifle, Colo. In 2016, the fairgrounds shattered its all-time concert attendance record, with nearly 3,500 tickets sold.

McCreery is riding a wave of success since he first erupted onto the music scene in 2011. The 23-year-old's first three albums all debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard chart, and three singles have been certified Platinum by the Record Industry Association of America (RIAA). In 2011, McCreery became the youngest man - and first country music artist — in history to have his first album debut atop the all-genre Billboard Top 200 albums chart.

After being crowned winner of the 10th season of American Idol at age 17, McCreery has seen his star soar even higher. He earned the American Country Awards "New Artist of the Year" honor in 2011, and "Breakthrough Artist of the Year" in 2013. The North Carolinian received his first Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI) award in 2015 for co-writing "See You Tonight," which was one of the Top-50 country songs of 2015, and one of his three Platinum-certified singles.

Despite his success, McCreery has remained very down-to-earth. After winning American Idol, he returned to high school and resumed his position as a pitcher on the school's baseball team. In 2012, McCreery enrolled at North Carolina State University to study communications.

Named "Best American Idol" in a Los Angeles Times poll, McCreery has toured the globe and thrilled audiences with his musical repertoire, including hits "I Love You This Big," "Feelin' It," "Southern Belle," and "The Trouble with Girls." He has toured with many country music stars, including Brad Paisley and Rascal Flatts. His die-hard fans, known affectionately as "the McCreerians," flock to shows, feeding on the electric atmosphere and country vibe.

With his surprisingly deep voice, and dynamic range, McCreery's songs appeal to any listener. Whether its teens dancing to his songs at a pep rally, or older couples relaxing on their porch enjoying a warm summer afternoon, the nascent country star's sound offers something for everyone. An assiduous songwriter, McCreery is writing songs in between concerts for his next album, which is expected later this year and is being produced by Frank Rogers. The country music star also supports numerous charitable causes, including St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, The 12.14 Foundation, World Vision, MLB RBI (Reviving Baseball in Inner Cities), The Opry Trust Fund, and other organizations in North Carolina.

McCreery plays Auckland, New Zealand on March 4, before returning to the U.S. for tour dates on the East Coast and Midwest. An avid outdoorsman, McCreery posted in a Twitter message on February 27, that he was hiking in Australia's backcountry.

"These hikes in the Blue Mountain are no joke," he wrote. The Garfield County Fair and Rodeo has become a magnet for exceptional live music acts. In 2016, Grammy-nominated artist Josh Turner, and Academy of Country Music Awards "New Male Vocalist of the Year" nominee Chris Janson, delighted sold-out crowds en route to the attendance records.
