County Road 215 Damage

Garfield County Engineer

FEBRUARY 21, 2014

GARFIELD COUNTY, CO - Roadway safety improvements on a curve in County Road 117 are underway, and drivers may encounter occasional impacts. Information on delays, lane closures, heavy roadside traffic and increased daytime noise levels at times over the duration of the eight-month project will be available in a number of locations to assist those impacted. Motorists are asked to use caution in the area for safety of themselves, road workers and other drivers.

Garfield County has hired Gould Construction, Inc. to improve a section on Four Mile Road at County Road 126 (Black Diamond Mine Road), just south of County Road 125 (Dry Park Road). Construction will impact the Four Mile roadway, a small bridge and a rock formation next to the road during the project.

Construction of bridge abutments is occurring and nearby residents may experience noise impacts from related drilling. Delays may occur intermittently and throughout the duration of the entire project. During this time there will be trucks and heavy equipment entering and exiting the road. Concrete forming is planned in late February and early March, and in about a month delay times are expected to increase.

"The decision to reconstruct the road has been in the making for over seven years," John Martin, Garfield County Commissioner said. "The project budget is about $3.75 million, and it will take approximately eight months to complete.

"The safety improvements will improve the line of sight for motorists, it will widen the bridge to improve congestion, and will stabilize the head gate and irrigation that are now located under the Black Diamond bridge. When complete, Four Mile Road will be safer for motorists," continued Martin.

Weekly updates and critical travel information on this project will be posted on the Garfield County website at, on KMTS radio, in the Post Independent, and on electronic message boards along Four Mile Road.
