Colorado DRIVES system set to go live Aug. 6; offices statewide closed Aug. 1-3

GARFIELD COUNTY, CO - Colorado's Motor Vehicle computer system is being updated this summer to provide customers with the best quality service possible. The new system, Colorado DRIVES, is slated to go live on Aug. 6.

In order to ensure a successful transition, motor vehicle staff from Garfield County - and in all motor vehicle offices across the state - are training for three months through July. This will lead to offices being short-staffed, which could affect service and extend waiting times.

The public is thanked in advance for its patience and cooperation during the transition. All Colorado Division of Motor Vehicles offices will be closed Aug. 1 through Aug. 3. All state drivers' license facilities will be closed Aug. 2-3, while the conversion of information to the Colorado DRIVES system takes place.

If your plates expire before the first week of August, drivers should plan ahead and renew their license tags in advance at New services available after the update include improved online vehicle registration and renewal services; applications for emissions waivers; access to receipts; personalized plate requests; new registrations; change of address service; documents for uploading; and more.
Colorado DRIVES offers faster transactions, better county-to-county integration, and additional online services. It is replacing the Colorado State Titling and Registration System (CSTARS), which was implemented between 1983 and '86.
