District reapportionment
2012 Colorado State Supreme Court approves plan
A reapportionment plan approved by the Colorado State Supreme Court will mean that Garfield County constituents will not be split between two State House of Representative and State Senate districts.
The Colorado Supreme Court approved reapportionment plans December 12, 2011, for filing with the Colorado Secretary of State December 14, 2011. The plans were adopted November 29, 2011, by the Colorado Reapportionment Commission and submitted to the Colorado Supreme Court on December 5, 2011.
All precincts in Garfield County will be in House District 57 and in Senate District 8 for the 2012 election, and both of these seats will be considered on the 2012 ballot.

The reapportionment effort was undertaken to reestablish population equality among districts, and this is done every ten years following a Census polling. The Colorado Supreme Court oversaw the efforts and required revised plans after the first submittal by the Colorado Reapportionment Commission, prior to approving the final plans on December 14, 2011.
Voters received a voter information card informing them of their precinct number, senate district, or house district in early January.
