2011 Tax Lien Sale - November
Garfield County's Tax Lien Sale is held annually in November.

The property taxes for sale are advertised for three weeks, beginning in October, usually in the Rifle Citizen Telegram and the Glenwood Springs Post Independent.  Property information is also available on this website at right.

The sale is conducted as an auction, with bids starting at the amount of taxes and fees owed. Historically, almost all real estate has been sold at the auction, and in most years many properties were sold with a premium bid. 

Payment for properties purchased at our Tax Lien Sale is due the day of the sale and must be paid in certified funds, which can be a wire transfer, a cashier's check or cash. Following the Tax Lien Sale, the buyer will receive, via mail, a copy of the Tax Lien Sale Certificate of Purchase for each property for which the buyer purchased the tax. The original is kept in the Garfield County Treasurer's office. 

Tax lien sale redemptions
Redemptions of a tax lien sale can be made only by the owner of a property, his agent, or an entity with a recorded interest in the property. Any redemption by someone other than the owner will be accepted subject to an executed and notarized agency authority.

Payments must be made in cash, money order or wire transfer.

Payments must be received in our office by the last working day of the month.
