Garfield County Public Health COVID vaccine clinics

PRESS RELEASE
April 13, 2021

Continue to check here for new appointments or as cancellations occur for tonight’s clinic of Moderna vaccine for anyone age 18 or older. Second dose appointments are May 13.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) have paused all Johnson and Johnson (J&J) vaccine administration. The clinic scheduled for the Carbondale Fire Department headquarters this evening, April 13, is providing Moderna vaccine to everyone who signed up. Those who receive their Moderna vaccine on April 13 are automatically scheduled for a second dose appointment on May 11 at the same time and in the same location. Those who wish to cancel their appointment should call 970-665-6371. Moderna is approved for anyone age 18 or older.

J&J adverse events appear to be extremely rare. More than 6.8 million doses of the vaccine have been distributed nationwide. The CDC and FDA are reviewing data involving six reported U.S. cases of a rare and severe type of blood clot in those who received the J&J vaccine. Safety is a top priority and Garfield County Public Health is pausing all distribution of J&J vaccine at this time.

People who have received the J&J vaccine who develop severe headache, abdominal pain, leg pain, or shortness of breath within three weeks after vaccination should contact their health care providers. Health care providers are asked to report adverse events to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System at https://vaers.hhs.gov/reportevent.html.
