Helicopter crash near Silt

GARFIELD COUNTY, Colo. – This morning at approximately 11:18 AM the Garfield County Sheriff’s Office was notified of a helicopter crash south of Silt. The initial report was that the helicopter was doing power line inspections and hooked a power line where it crosses County Road 331 (Dry Hollow Road) at approximately the 1.6 mile marker and subsequently came down.

Three people were on board including the pilot. Witnesses in the area called Central Dispatch. Garfield County Sheriff Deputies and Colorado River Fire Rescue were dispatched to the scene as well as Search and Rescue. There were no survivors. The names of the occupants are being with held pending further investigation and the notification of next of kin.

County Road 331 is closed on either side of the crash site; traffic is being directed to alternate routes. It is expected that the road will remain closed for the next twelve to forty eight hours until all site investigations are complete.
