January 28, 2016

Distribution of awards ranges from $500 to $5,000 as part of $40,000 in mini grant funding for 2016. Funding is awarded for: outreach to create healthy eating and active living behaviors, increasing of healthy food consumption and activity levels for people living in Garfield County communities, encouraging worksite wellness programs, and engaging schools and municipalities in upcoming events.

In 2015, LiveWell Garfield County awarded $40,000 through the mini grant program for community projects to increase Healthy Eating and Active Living (HEAL) activities in the community. Fourteen programs throughout the county received funding.

Preference is given to projects that have a strong measurable impact to increase access and/or consumption of fruits and vegetables, and likewise increase physical activity among residents, target schools or low-income populations, have a sustainability plan, have at least 50 percent matching funds, and/or are led by an active LiveWell Garfield County steering or coalition member.

Early submission deadline is February 19th. For applicants who wish to submit on, or before the early application deadline, a member of the steering committee will review the application and return it to the applicant with feedback. The applicant may then submit a final revised application for review. Notification of award will be given one week after the March 1 application due date.

LiveWell Garfield County also offers funding through a sponsorship program, which was created to encourage additional community partnerships throughout the year through supporting local events, programs, and projects. The LiveWell steering committee will consider requests of up to $250, and evaluates requests on the second Tuesday of each month. Sponsorship requests must be submitted at least one month ahead of the needed request.
