NEWS
2009 Senior Exemption
Senate Bill 09-276 was signed into law in June of 2009. This affects all taxpayers who have been approved for the Senior Tax Exemption. The legislature did not fund the Senior Exemption for tax year 2009. This is affecting the tax bill that you are receiving in February of 2010. Neither the Assessor's office or the Treasurer's office has any control over this legislation. If you wish to voice your opinion on this, please contact your legislator. The legislature will once again be looking at the funding of this exemption for tax year 2010 and the more voices they hear from, the better.

Senate Bill 09-276 Regarding the Senior & Veterans Exemption
Senate Bill 09-276 was introduced on April 6, 2009 and would eliminate the Senior Exemption for tax year 2009. The Veteran's Exemption will remain in effect for tax year 2009. Regardless of whether Senate Bill 09-276 passes, your County Assessor, and the Colorado Division of Veterans Affairs, will continue to process new applications for the exemption programs, and those who qualify for the first time in 2009 are encouraged to apply. If you or your spouse are 65 years of age and have occupied your home in Garfield County for 10 years as of 1/1/2009; please contact the Assessor's office at 970-945-9134. You may be eligible for this exemption.
Tax Notices have gone out for 2009 taxes payable in 2010
Those of you that live within a city limit in Garfield County will see something different on your Tax Notice this year. The Road and Bridge Mill Levy will appear as two lines; this is not an error. In years past our system added them together, our new system does not. If you add these two lines together you get the full Mill Levy for Road and Bridge.
