Medicaid savings program
QI1 and SLMB – These programs provide payment of the Medicare Part B premium for individuals or couples whose income is greater than 120% of poverty level and/or less than 135% of poverty level. The benefit received by this group is the payment of the Medicare Part B premium only, which will entitle you to your gross monthly benefits.
Eligibility Criteria:
- Must be entitled to Medicare Part A
- Income greater than 120% of poverty level, but less than 135% of poverty level (These limits increase in February of each year.)
QMB – State Medicaid programs now pay Medicare premiums, deductibles and co-insurance for Medicare recipients with limited income and resources. These individuals are called Qualified Medicare Beneficiaries (QMB).
Medicaid will pay:
- Monthly premiums for Medicare Part B.
- Medicare deductibles (the yearly deductible for Part B Medicare services such as office visits, lab, X-ray services and the Part A deductible if you are hospitalized)
- Medicare CO-INSURANCE (the 20% per service charge which you have to pay for most medical services)
Medicare Part D- Low Income Subsidy- This program pays for Medicare Part D premiums.
Individual who are eligible for both Medicare and Medicaid automatically qualify. Medicare only recipients need to apply through the Social Security Administration office.
