Family to Family

Many voices, one vision

Family to Family originated, out of the Annie E. Casey Foundation, in 1992.
Family to Family raises the best case practice standard in child protection across the nation. In May of 2009, Garfield County decided to adopt the Family to Family model into their adult protective services program. There are four main core strategies which include:

Resource, recruitment and retention involves increasing our foster homes, reforming the system currently in place by including foster families as professionals on the team and having hands-on involvement for the safe return of a child to his or her family. For older adults, host homes and family/kin connections are being utilized to meet the needs of this population. All caregivers are professionals on the team.

Team Decisionmaking Meetings (TDMs) brings families, community partners, supports, foster parents, caregivers and others to the table to make tough placement decisions as a team.

Community Partners invites agencies to be a part of the family’s team as well as the Department to work towards the best possible outcome for children, older adults and their families.

Data Collection helps us keep track and understand what we are doing well and what needs to improve. This information makes us better and stronger!

Garfield County began using the Family to Family model for children and families February 1, 2008.
