Preparing ahead for emergencies in Garfield County

Garfield County Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan
The Garfield County administration is currently engaged in a multi-tiered emergency management planning process to develop comprehensive emergency management plans for county operations. Together, these plans will provide a vision for comprehensive planning to reduce county vulnerability, and will work across Garfield County departments to identify the next steps to move toward a more holistic approach to county resilience.

To date, Garfield County has developed a Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan (NHMP) as part of a suite of Emergency Management plans that also include a Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) and a Local Recovery Plan. In the summer of 2009, Garfield County contracted with ECONorthwest to begin the process of developing a Risk Assessment, evaluating hazards and vulnerabilities, and developing a method for understanding relative risk. That Risk Assessment provides a foundation for this NHMP and the County's comprehensive approach to risk reduction. In 2011, the County outreached to other local jurisdictions to encourage their participation in the NHMP process.  As a result, a Draft Final Multi-jurisdictional NHMP has been created for the County as well as multiple addendums that reflect unique jurisdictional issues.
