MARRIAGE LICENSES

Any questions please contact the Clerk’s Office – by Jean Alberico, Garfield County Clerk or Marian Clayton, Deputy Registrar Alicia Macias

Recently, identity theft has become a real issue.  Proper identification is required in order for us to issue a marriage license or a certified copy of a license.

Certificates are good for 30-days upon issuance.

The following information is needed to obtain a marriage license:

  • Fee is $30.00
  •  Both parties must come to the Clerk’s Office 109 8th Street, Suite 200, Glenwood Springs Courthouse, Glenwood Springs, CO. or at the Rifle Annex at 144 East 3rd Street, Rifle, CO.
  • Proof of age is required, which may be obtained through a drivers license, birth certificate or passport.
  • Proof of identification can be driver’s license, birth certificate, or a passport.
  • If the applicant is under the age of 16, a court order allowing the marriage must be obtained.
  • If the applicant is between the ages of 16 and 17, but not yet 18 years, both parents must be present and sign or bring in a signed form that has been notarized.
  • Colorado does not require a blood test and there is no waiting period.
  • If the applicant has been divorced for less than 6 months, we do need a copy of the divorce decree.  If the applicant has been divorced for longer than 6 months, we need to know the date of the divorce, as well as the court in which the divorce was finalized.
  • The marriage certificate must be used in the State of Colorado.
  • No one except blood relationship, family of the bride or groom can see the marriage application (which contains personal information). This does not affect the marriage license.
  • Common Law marrages certificates may be recorded at the normal fee.
