2010 & 2011 Senior Exemptions
Senate Bill 10-190 which was introduced April 8, 2010 calls for the elimination of funding for the senior citizen property tax exemption for taxes due in 2011 and 2012. If you are concerned about this bill, you need to contact your legislators. The assessor does not determine whether the exemption is funded; the legislature does. Regardless of whether it passes, the assessor will continue to process new applications. Please contact this office if you have questions.

2009 Senior Exemption
Senate Bill 09-276 was signed into law in June of 2009. This affects all taxpayers who have been approved for the Senior Tax Exemption. The legislature did not fund the Senior Exemption for tax year 2009. This is affecting the tax bill that you are receiving in February of 2010. Neither the Assessor's office or the Treasurer's office has any control over this legislation. If you wish to voice your opinion on this, please contact your legislator. The legislature will once again be looking at the funding of this exemption for tax year 2010 and the more voices they hear from, the better.
