Slower speeds in Cattle Creek area
Garfield County is constructing acceleration and deceleration lanes at the Cattle Creek intersection of Highway 82. In the construction zone, the speed limit is reduced to 40 mph during working hours, and 50 mph in evening/overnight periods. The county expenditure is to make the intersection safer for motorists entering highway 82 or exiting on the County Road 113 (Cattle Creek) intersection.

CSU study data
From November, 2012 to June, 2016, Colorado State University conducted a study characterizing air emissions from natural gas drilling and well completion operations in Garfield County; study data is online.

Houston Mountain Fire
Containment is possible Thursday on the Houston Mountain Fire between Rifle and Rulison. A quick response from engine crews, three heavy air tankers, a single engine air tanker, a heavy helicopter, two support planes and the 20-person Sante Fe Hotshots kept the fire to an estimated 15 acres.
